Parents: Our hope for Benjamin for his trip to Cuba is to have fun with baseball with a completely different perspective. We want him to see how other kids from another culture live; to see the good and the bad about what kids in Cuba have and don't have. To make new friends and establish relationships. And to ultimately gain an appreciation for what he has here at home, in the US.

Really getting to know them as people, and learning the simple and fun things about their day-day life. So that is our hope for Ean. We hope that he has a meaningful trip and takes the time to visit with the Cuban players, and gets to know them, and appreciates their life style. Parents: We hope that our children will appreciate the culture and people of Cuba. Through our own lives, we have learned that the best lessons are learned through travel and meeting people from different backgrounds. We hope this experience will also help our children to appreciate all of the opportunities that they have in the Untied States. Lastly, we hope that our children learn that one of the most important things for us to do in this world is to offer help to those who are less fortunate than ourselves.

In Cuba: Can’t wait to meet kids my age, practice speaking Spanish, seeing Cuba, and eating Cuban food.
I’ve been playing baseball for 11 years. I started out in t-ball, and played in the WH Youth league. The highlights for me have been playing on the winning team (The Bandits) for the New England Regional Championships. We played teams from New England over the course of a week. I received a player of the game award against a team from Massachusetts. I caught 11 innings straight in the championship double header to become the 11 year old New England champs. The following year, I traveled and played on the West Hartford Youth travel team The Renegades - 12U - to Cooperstown, NY and played in the Dreams Park there. We competed against teams from all 50 states and stayed in the park for a week. We visited the Baseball Hall of Fame. Baseball has taught me a lot, and the teammates I have had are lifelong friends. I am very honored to be a part of the USA/CUBA Goodwill Tour, and represent West Hartford, Connecticut and the US.

Parents thoughts: My wife Debbie and I are excited about this is fantastic opportunity for Ryan. Baseball aside he is going to get to experience traveling outside of our country for the first time. Ryan will get a chance to interact with kids his own age while learning about a whole new culture. Perhaps the most valuable part of the trip in my opinion is the theme of goodwill. I believe our children are fortunate to live and be a part of a great community in West Hartford. I am sure seeing a community where simple possessions are not taken for granted will give Ryan a greater appreciation for his life in Connecticut. I am excited to join Ryan on this trip as a parent ONLY. I have had the pleasure of coaching most of Ryan's teams from a very young age. I am very much looking forward to sitting back and watching him play on the field and grow as a young man in Cuba.
